Raised in Boston and in a rural South Carolina farming community by an artist family, Haven Bourque is dedicated to food system transformation that drives social change. Haven joins Saba Grocers Initiative as the Communications Director with an extensive background in communication strategies, public relations campaigns, and executive spokesperson development, working with non-profit organizations, small farming operations, and policy advocates striving for food system equity, environmental justice, and community health. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Kansai Gaikokugo Daigaku in Osaka, Japan, Haven has lived, worked, and performed with percussion ensembles in Japan, Guatemala, and San Francisco’s Mission District.
Haven’s experience comes from working with notable major national organizations focused on food, farming, labor, and climate justice, such as Fair Trade USA, Pesticide Action Network, Friends of the Earth, and the Ecological Farming Association just to name a few. She is also a contributing writer for Civil Eats, and has served for four years on the Oakland Food Policy Council. Haven resides in Oakland’s District 4 with her partner and four rescue cats.
